The Best Cities to Live in on the East Coast

Thinking of living on the East Coast? Well, here are six cities you might want to consider!

1. New York City, New York

New York City
The Busy Streets of New York.

There’s no denying it — New York will always take the number one spot when it comes to being the best east coast city in which to live. And as you might expect, getting a house there is very expensive: the range is around $400,000 to $2,500,000.

Primarily, New York City is the largest city in the United States, with diversity at its core. Whoever you are, if you live in New York, then you automatically become a New Yorker, no questions asked.

Aside from diversity, if living in a bustling city is one of your top priorities, then New York City’s for you. Not to mention that if you live there, you’ll surely rub elbows with famous celebs almost every day!

2. Avalon, New Jersey

If you want to get away from the city vibe, then Avalon is for you. Even if it gets crowded during the summer, the place is quiet when the tourists are gone. Real estate starts at around $125,000 and can go as high $250,000 on average.

The atmosphere is great. The scenery’s excellent during spring and fall. Houses are more prominent than skyscrapers and huge condos. And if you have a second or third floor with a balcony, you can enjoy the refreshing view, especially if you’re near a beach.

3. Chestertown, Maryland

This is another place that boasts a tranquil atmosphere. But unlike Avalon, Chestertown still has its colonial homes and historic buildings.

On the other hand, if you can’t afford the houses within the city, you can go outside and rent a space in an apartment complex. The atmosphere of the city is infectious, so it’s a nice idea to live in or nearby it.

4. Lenoir, North Carolina

If you love forests, then Lenoir is for you. The city is known for being a supplier of hickory, which most furniture in the United States is made of.

Aside from that, the city has a rural feel despite being urban in most places. If you want a modern place to live in, and still want that homey and quiet atmosphere, go or at least visit Lenoir. Housing price here starts at around $60,000 and can go up as high as $500,000.

5. Bluehill, Maine

People who love kayaking, boating, fishing, and even swimming live at Bluehill. It’s a city near a long-spanning coastline. In addition, the city has numerous good schools.

Restaurants and festivals are good to experience here. The overall atmosphere is bustling in downtown areas, but uptown areas tend to have a slower pace. On a different note, luxury houses tend to be expensive here: starting price is $2 million. Regular houses can cost around $600,000 up to $650,000.

6. Plymouth, New Hampshire

This place is a bit gloomy, but still a nice place in which to live. The city’s surrounded by deep forests, filled with fir and pine trees. And just visiting the place is rewarding due to the freshness of the air and the nice music festivals.

One of the strong points of living in Plymouth is the low cost of living. The median sale price for a house in the city is around $170,000 up to $200,000.
